Gomashio Project

It's been a while since the last update.

Long time no see! (bows)

I spend my days looking at the beautiful creations

on Instagram made with the yarns

that have traveled to you all,

and I'm deeply grateful for it. (Am I getting old?)

I'm caught up in my own knitting fever,

and I wonder how many hours a day I spend knitting.

I'm knitting while thinking about various things for the shop.

Currently, I'm gradually building up a stock of dyed yarn

for the next update, but I'm also considering

starting to take custom orders for existing colors little by little.

Also!

I've been thinking about what new things I can try

that are unique to hand-dyed yarn.

↑ What do you call this kind of thing?

Is it Ombre? It's a variegated dye, but

the color saturation varies per skein,

so when knitting simple designs like sweaters,

instead of "fading" with colorful yarns,

you create variation with monotone.

In the top photo, it fades clockwise from the bottom left.

In the bottom photo, it fades from the left (you can tell, right!?)

For now, I can't come up with a perfect name,

so I'm calling it the "Gomashio" (sesame salt) project. (How uninspired...)

This time, for "Gomashio," I dyed raw silk with black dye,

and it's really interesting.

It's a little hard to tell from the photo, but

it seems there are other colors mixed into the black dye,

so in the diluted smoky gray, blues and rusty beiges emerge.

I think I'll offer this as a custom order,

where you can order the amount you need for a garment

with your preferred base and number of skeins.

I haven't tried it yet, but instead of one color,

I'd like to try making a Fig version with Ballerina Pink and Apple Green.

And a Strawberry Choco Chip version.

I can't knit all of them myself,

so maybe I should recruit some testers

to make samples...

Anyway, I'm gradually

thinking about new ventures for the shop.
